CCCC Blue Economy Internships

Thank you for your interest in the program. The application for winter/spring 2024 is now closed.

We are offering a paid internship opportunity for Cape Cod Community College students at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Woods Hole, MA, January-May, 2024. The program consists of a short course on “Blue Economy” topics and an internship placement in a WHOI lab. No previous experience is required – just interest and a desire to learn more!

The 2-week short course will be held in January and will include lectures and daily hands-on activities and tours. Course dates are Tues-Fri, Jan 9-12 and Jan 16-19, 2024. The course will present Blue Economy topics including ocean aquaculture, engineering and sensors, offshore wind energy, fisheries, and marine pollution such as oil and plastics. The course requires about 20 hours on-site.

The internship/lab placement will introduce students to career paths that exist locally within ocean science and engineering, and the Blue Economy. Interns will be placed with a research group that most closely matches their interests. The internship requires 50 hours on-site over the course of the Spring Semester and scheduling is flexible.

Eligibility: Applicants should be currently enrolled in a degree program at CCCC. They should have completed a minimum of 1-2 community college science courses.

Stipend/Tuition: Students are paid $17/hour for the course and internship (total 70 hours). Reimbursement for transportation or mileage will be provided. Students will earn one credit through course ENV260 and tuition is covered by the STEM Starter Academy.
