Walking Tours
In September and October, knowledgeable WHOI volunteers guide visitors on free walking tours through the WHOI dock area and other restricted village facilities.
Launched from the WHOI Visitor Center at 93 Water Street in the center of Woods Hole village, the tours take approximately one hour and fifteen minutes and provide background on the research conducted at WHOI and on the history of the Institution. Tours are available, Thursday and Friday at 11:00 a.m. Space is limited, so see below to register for a tour. Call (508) 289-2252 or email information@whoi.edu for more information. Tours are recommended for a teenage to an adult audience.
Group Visits
The WHOI Ocean Science Discovery Center provides a window into the research conducted at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. We will help groups of 10 or more arrange a visit to the Center and provide information packets and maps in advance of your visit. We can also make suggestions on how to coordinate your visit to the Discovery Center with trips to other Woods Hole-based research institutions.
Presentations at the Discovery Center
Groups visiting the WHOI Ocean Science Discovery Center can enhance their visit with a presentation by a WHOI docent. Group presentations orient visitors to what they will see and learn about in the Discovery Center and provide an overview of the work conducted at WHOI, from marine biology to ocean engineering.
Presentations run approximately 20 minutes and are highly recommended for visiting groups. After the presentation, the WHOI docent will be available to answer questions as your group views the exhibits in the Discovery Center.
Arranging Tours for Groups
WHOI staff can work with the Visitor Center and the Ocean Science Discovery Center to arrange group visits to the Institution and the Center. This includes dock tours, specific WHOI facilities or a general overview of the Institution to hosted groups by Institution staff. For more information on special group visits contact Megan Harrigan or Joanne Tromp.
