The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution was received word of the death May 19, 2001, of retiree William Francis Gallagher at the Royal Megansett Nursing Home in North Falmouth. He was 85.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death of Honorary Member of the Corporation Dr. James D. Ebert at age 79. Dr. Ebert and his wife, Alma Goodwin Ebert, 78, died May 22 of injuries they suffered in a car accident in Maryland.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death May 3, 2001, of Senior Mechanic John P. Clement after a brief illness. John died of cancer at his home in East Falmouth. He was 56.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death January 31, 2001, of retiree William G. “Gerry” Metcalf of Falmouth at age 82. Gerry worked at the Institution in the Physical Oceanography Department from 1945 until his retirement as an Associate Scientist in 1979. Following his retirement he was appointed Scientist Emeritus.
