The submersibles DeepRover2 (pictured) and Nadir survey a field of soft corals and sponges at about 80 meters depth off Santiago Island in the Galapagos Archipelago. During a three-week expedition in August, an international team led by WHOI scientists, in partnership with the Charles Darwin Foundation for the Galápagos Islands and in close collaboration with the Galapagos National Park Directorate, worked from the M/V Alucia to make the first scientific surveys that mapped the seamounts on the Galápagos platform and cataloged the diverse marine life that these underwater mountains support.(Adam Soule, WHOI, WHOI-MISO Facility, Nadir submersible, Dalio Explore Fund, ©Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
