The tiny offspring of two species of deep-sea corals from Antarctica changed from shapeless larvae (left) into tiny, tentacled corals (right) within 24 hours of brooding. Biologist Rhian Waller of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution watched the transformation during a spring 2006 cruise to Antarctica, and she continued to monitor the development of seven surviving larvae she brought back to Woods Hole.
