Twilight's Last Gleaming

Twilight’s Last Gleaming

October 15, 2014

A researcher takes a break to take in the sunset between CTD casts aboard the R/V Knorr this summer. Such casts, together with mooring deployments and RAFOS float launches, were a big part of the Overturning in the Sub-Polar North Atlantic Program (O-SNAP), a long-term, international mission to better understand currents and circulation in the North Atlantic. In partnership with their colleagues at the University of Miami and Duke University, WHOI scientists Bob Pickart, Fiamma Straneo, and Amy Bower will use the new observing system to monitor the flow and quantify how warm water becomes cold at high latitudes.(Photo by Carolina Nobre, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
