President Donald Trump directed U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff for the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. 

Under a federal joint resolution passed in December 2001, the sitting U.S. president is legally directed to issue an annual Patriot Day proclamation. This proclamation requires all American flags at government buildings, federal agencies, and public facilities across the country to be lowered to half-staff from dawn to dusk on September 11th to honor the nearly 3,000 victims and heroes of the attacks. 

In addition to the flag directive, the national observance for the 25th anniversary includes observing moments of silence and official remembrance ceremonies. While Vice President JD Vance is expected to represent the administration at the Ground Zero ceremony in New York City, President Trump is scheduled to mark the historic anniversary with a speech at the Pentagon.
