Peter Saunders

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of former employee Peter Saunders on August 20. He was 87.

Peter received his BS in physics in 1954, his MS in 1955, and his Ph.D. in 1960 in meteorology all from Imperial College, London.

Peter began his career at WHOI in 1959 when he received the Carl-Gustaf Rossby Memorial Fellowship under Willem Malkus. In 1960, he received a WHOI Fellowship. In 1961, he was appointed meteorologist. In 1967, he returned from a year-long absence and was appointed as an associate scientist under Nick Fofonoff.  In 1970, he received tenure. He left WHOI in 1976.
