Percy L. Kennedy

The Wood Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Percy L. Kennedy on November 17, in the McCarthy Care Center, Sandwich.  He was 88.

Percy was born April 5, 1923. He was the son of Arthur and Minnie Kennedy of Jackson, Tenn. Percy earned a GED from Falmouth High School, attending at night and attended Cape Cod Community College as a part time night student.

Percy served in the United States Army during WWII and was honorably discharged and then served in the United Sates Air Force, retiring after 32 years at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Percy began his career at WHOI in1974 as a Security Guard.  In 1979, he transferred to Shipping and Receiving where he was a clerk.  He retired in 1988.

He enjoyed doing math and loved family gatherings.

Percy leaves his wife Mary V. (Murray) Kennedy of 62 years and a son, Percy Jr. and his wife Roberta of East Falmouth.

A Graveside Service will take place at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 23, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National or local Cancer Society.
