Patricia E. Thompson

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death October 30, 2003, of Patricia E. Thompson of Falmouth after a long illness with emphysema. She was 68.

Born in Yorkshire, England, on December 4, 1934, Patricia E. (Cooper) Thompson moved to South Africa at age 21 and met her husband, Geoffrey Thompson, in Transvaal. They moved to the United States in 1965 and settled in Falmouth. She worked in the WHOI Facilities Department at Endeavor House and at the Buttery in Clark Laboratory on the Quissett Campus from 1972 until 1985, working with Bruce Crawford and later Andy Wessling and Barbara Martineau. She also worked in private catering, and volunteered as a Friendly Visitor for Falmouth Human Services for a number of years. She loved cooking and was an avid gardener and reader.

Surviving are her husband, Geoff, of Falmouth; a daughter, Leslie, of Pocasset, MA; two sons, Mark of Foxborough, MA and Gary of Centerville, MA; two sisters, Vicky and Muriel of Yorkshire, England; two brothers, David and James of Yorkshire, England; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were private.
