Mabel M. (Badger) Reese Fay

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Mabel M. (Badger) Reese Fay on October 18 in Vergennes, VT. She was 93.

As Ms. Reese, Mabel lived in Falmouth from 1961 to 1988, except for a two-year rotation in Ketchikan, Alaska, during her husband’s posting there with the Coast Guard. The family moved to Falmouth from Florida in 1961 when her husband was assigned to the Coast Guard station in Woods Hole.

Mabel began her career at WHOI in 1961 as a secretary/receptionist.  In 1962, she transferred to secretary of the Aluminaut project.  She left in 1965 but returned in 1967 as a secretary. She retired in 1988 as a secretary II.

She was the widow of Glenn Fay. Her first husband, James R. Reese, died in 1996.

Mabel leaves her four children, James E. Reese of Lynn, Mass., John Reese of Wayland, Mass., Robert J. Reese of Flagler Beach, FL, and Judy A. Melsha of Fall River, Mass.

Services have not been determined as of yet.  Mabel will be cremated with her second husband in Vermont.
