John A. Wood, Jr.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree John A. Wood, Jr., on December 22 after a lengthy illness. He was 80.

John was the son of John A. and Adeline (Davidson) Wood of South Yarmouth, both deceased. He was born in Manchester, CT, and graduated from Manchester High School in 1960 and Husson University in 1965.

John moved to South Yarmouth in 1988 from Bolton, CT, and was a member of the West Dennis Community Church in West Dennis, MA

John began his career at WHOI in 1989 as a Buyer in the Procurement Department.  He was promoted several times throughout his career retiring in 2007 as a Marine Procurement Representative.

John is survived by his cousins Robert P. Johnson and his wife, Jane, of Manchester, VT, and by David B. Johnson and his wife Andrea of Walpole, NH, as well as second cousins Robert G. Davidson of San Jose, CA, and by Louise (Davidson) Sellers of Concord, CA.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his uncles and aunts Robert S. and Jane B. Johnson and by John P. and Barbara (Wood) O’Neill as well as grandparents Clarence F. and Bertha M. Wood and Edith Davidson.

Graveside services will be at Ancient Cemetery in Yarmouth Port at a later date.
