James P. Corr

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death November 2, 1999 of retiree James Patrick Corr. Jim died at his home in North Falmouth, MA, following a long illness. He was 74.

Jim was born January 22, 1925 in Taunton, MA, and was graduated from Taunton High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945. After the war he joined the staff at New Process Twist Drill in Taunton as a machine operator, running lathes, milling machines and drill presses and working as a salesman and in the shipping and receiving room. In 1958 he joined the staff at Finest Floor Conditioners in Braintree.

Jim moved to North Falmouth in 1962 and joined the WHOI staff the following year as a stock clerk. In May 1964 he transferred to the Mail Room, working for Andy Wessling, and later Jim Mitchell and Ernie Charette. Jim was promoted to Senior Mail Clerk in 1974 and retired from WHOI in 1990 after 27 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Mary T. (McSweeney) Corr of North Falmouth; two sons, James P. Corr 3rd of West Falmouth, MA, and Dennis M. Corr of Sandwich, MA; a daughter, Kerry Ann Corr of Plymouth, MA; a brother, Robert Corr, of Martha’s Vineyard; and several nieces and nephews.
