Evangeline P. Wilkins

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Evangeline P. Wilkins on January 24, after a lengthy illness.  She was 83.

She was the daughter of Demetrios James Tollios and Polimia Tollios.

Evangeline began her career at WHOI in 1944 as a laboratory helper.  She left in 1955.  While working at WHOI, she met her husband Charles H. Wilkins, who also worked at WHOI. After a brief courtship, they married and left WHOI and traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The couple remained in Fort Lauderdale for several years before moving to Lake City, Florida, to live near their daughter.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her daughter, Stephanie Lunde of Lake City, Florida; her son, Jonathan Wilkins of Hyannis; and her grandchildren, Blake, Emily and Hayden Lunde, all of Lake City. Ms. Wilkins also leaves her brother, Constantine Tollios of Falmouth. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Sethares.
