Eric W. Spencer

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death
of retiree Eric W. Spencer Jr. on June 27, 2008. He was 78.

Eric was born in New York City, NY, on April 1, 1930. He was the
husband of Eleanor (Bevilacqua) Spencer and resided in Seekonk, Ma.

A Korean War veteran, Eric was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy
and a graduate of Hofstra University. He began working at the
Institution in 1979 as a safety officer and retired in 1992.

He is survived by his wife and children, Jo-Anne Spencer of
Rumford, John Spencer of Tavernier, FL, Gina Spencer of Attleboro, MA
and David Spencer, his wife Lisa (McDermott) and their children, Sam,
Julia, Anna and Rachel, all of Seekonk, MA; and his sister, Doris
(Spencer) Christiansen of Seaford, NY.

Eric will be remembered at a private Memorial Service. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that contributions in Eric’s memory be made to
