David P. Kammer

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the sudden death of former employee David P. Kammer of Marcellus, NY, on May 14, 2023. He was 61.

David was was born and raised in Beaver Falls, PA, to the late Edwin P. and Eleanor (Park) Kammer. He was a graduate of Blackhawk High School, Bucknell University, the University of Houston, and the University of Rochester.

David began his career at WHOI in 1988 as a research assistant III in the Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry Department under Mark Kurz. In 1991, he was promoted to a research associate. He left in 1995.

After his career at WHOI, he worked for Xerox, DecisionOne, Pass & Seymour, and Eaton. At the time of his death, he was Global Director of Strategic Pricing for Quaker Houghton.

David’s life was full of adventure, with a wide range of interests. Always at home outdoors, he enjoyed white-water rafting, sailing, ice boating, hiking, skiing, scuba diving, curling, tennis, and quoits. His studies in geology, his passion for adventure, and his love for travel took him around the globe, never without a camera. More than anything, David was most happy at Lake Waynewood, PA, surrounded by family, friends, and his three loyal Golden Retrievers Scout, Jenny, and Goose.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his son William E. Kammer, his brother Paul Kammer, and his sister Priscilla Valko.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Brigid A. Boyle, his children, Andrew, Annie, and Park Kammer, Alan (Buck) Thurston, his lifelong best friend, and many extended family and friends.
