David L. Shores

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of former employee David L. Shores on April 10 at the Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath, Maine. He was 84.

David was born in Brockton, Mass., July 16, 1933, son of Lawrence and Mildred E. (Irwin) Shores. He graduated from high school in 1951 and received a bachelor’s degree at UMass Amherst. He attended Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, where he received his master’s degree and became a minister for United Church of Christ in Alstead, N.H. On May 30, 1958, he married Janet Dixon. They resided in Falmouth.

David began his career at WHOI in 1965 as a research assistant in Biology.  He was promoted to a research assistant III in April of 1974 and left in October of 1974.

David was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Shores, of El Paso, Texas; three sons, Ken S. Shores of Franklin, Mass., Doug L. Shores of El Paso, Texas, and Brian Todd Shores and his wife, Cheryl, of Schwenksville, Pa.; three sisters, Marilyn A. Spear, Beverly J. Matthews, and Barbara J. Terrell; and two grandchildren, Alexander Shores and Taylor Shores.
