The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death January 1, 2001 of David C. White of North Falmouth after a long illness at age 47. He died at the Center for Optimum Care in Falmouth.

Born in Natick, MA, David White moved to Falmouth in 1965. He graduated in 1971 from Upper Cape Cod Regional Vocational Technical School in Bourne, and briefly worked at the Institution from July 1971 to March 1972 on Research Vessel Knorr. He painted houses in later years.

Surviving are five sisters, Martha Rumskas of Old Lyme, CT, Diane Venezia of Newport, VT, Beth Casey of North Falmouth, MA, Christine Montanez of Mountain View, CA, and Marilyn Cyr of Middleboro, MA; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will gather in his memory at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 Whites Path, South Yarmouth, MA 02664-1212.
