Cyril L. Fennelly

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Cyril L. Fennelly on September 26, in Falmouth.  He was 92.

Cyril was born on May 2, 1920, in Somerville, MA. He was the son of the late Canice and Anna Mae Fennelly. He received a diploma from English High School, Boston in 1937.

Cyril served in the United States Coast Guard for 33 years. He later began his career at WHOI in June 1973 as a stock clerk.  In December of that year, he became the Institution’s safety coordinator.  He retired in 1984.

Cyril is survived by his wife, Olga A. (Blumburh) Fennelly; his son, Tom C. Fennelly of New York; his son-in-law, Kurt Hinson of Falmouth; and grandchildren, Kristin Hinson of East Falmouth, Crystal Hinson of New Bedford, Mark Bingham of Framingham, and Tara DeGaetano of Douglas. Cyril was predeceased by his daughters Patricia A. Fennelly and Lynette R. Hinson.

A period of visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 2, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., at St. Patrick’s Church, 511 Main Street, Falmouth. Burial will follow at the Churchyard in Woods Hole.
