Craig Henderson

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the unexpected death of employee Craig T. Henderson on March 29. He was 63.

One of eight children of the late Gilbert M. and Louise M. Henderson, Craig was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, and was a graduate of Hollywood Hills High School in Florida.

A veteran of the United States Army, Craig served during the Vietnam War and was based in Korea.

Craig began his career at WHOI in 1998 as a carpenter.  In 2000, he was promoted to senior carpenter, and in 2001, to carpenter shop supervisor.

Craig was a history fanatic and loved taking his family on trips to Gettysburg and all Civil War sites. He enjoyed fishing, camping, sports (especially the Red Sox and Patriots), cooking, listening to music, and spending time with his family and friends.

Craig is survived by his partner of 29 years, Denise Gardner, as well as sons, Craig D. Henderson of Marshfield, Matthew Henderson and his wife Michelle of Carver; stepdaughter, Lindsey Gardner of Easton; and grandchildren, Julia Henderson and Zachary Taylor of Carver. He is predeceased by his sister Donna Burke and survived by six siblings: Diane Conant of Abington; Keith Henderson of Lake Worth, Florida; Deborah Kiernan and her husband Vincent of Falmouth; Scott Henderson of Carve; Jeffrey Henderson of Harwich; Jon Henderson of Falmouth; and brother-in-law Tom Burke of Abington. He leaves many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved German shepherd, Hunter.

A celebration of Craig’s life will be held on Saturday, April 2, from 2-5 p.m., at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte. 53, Hanover, Massachusetts.
