Loreley (Rory) Lago, joins WHOI’s PO Department. Rory earned her PhD in Physical Oceanography from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied the variability of the circulation and main forcing in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean, focused on continental shelf dynamics.
Rory’s research interests include in-situ data, with her main interest is in ocean dynamics, variability and forcing of ocean circulation combining in-situ, satellite altimetry and model data. As a member of Bob Pickart’s team, Rory is currently analyzing in-situ hydrographic data and direct velocity observations in the Chukchi sea to analyze the distribution of water masses and their circulation paths. This work is in collaboration with the biology team that studies the harmful algae blooms in the region.
Reading is Rory’s favorite hobby, especially contemporary literature. She also enjoys learning languages and exploring cities and their cultures, also through movies and music. She spends most of her spare time working out, doing yoga and swimming.
