Welcome Guest Investigator Jezabel Curbelo

jezabelcurbelo Jezabel Curbelo, “Ramón y Cajal” researcher at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, joins WHOI’s PO Department as Guest Investigator. Jezabel earned her PhD in Mathematics from U. Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), (Spain, 2014). After that, she was a postdoc at Laboratoire de Géologie de Lyon (France, 2014 – 2016), and at U. Politécnica de Madrid and Assistant Professor at UAM (2016 – 2020). Since 2016, she has done several research stays at UCLA. Her research focuses mainly on the description of transport, mixing and stirring in the ocean and atmosphere from the standpoint of dynamical systems theory. She studies fluid dynamics occurring in geophysical settings both from an analytical and fundamentally numerical point of view. In particular, she works in atmospheric and oceanic dynamics looking for coherent structures that characterize the transport and she investigates fundamental behaviors of fluid processes in planetary mantles, where she analyzes the convective motions. She enjoys dancing. Pre-pandemic, she spent lots of time dancing Salsa. Photo provided by Jezabel Curbelo.
