James Davis

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree James Davis on October 4, in Ashaway, RI. He was 79.

James began his career at WHOI in 1967 as an assistant scientist in the Geology and Geophysics Department.  In 1971 he transferred to the Ocean Engineering Department.  In 1972 he was promoted to an associate scientist and retired in 1974.

Prior to his career at WHOI, he was an electronics technician for the U.S. Navy from 1948 – 1953.  In 1957 he then went on to be a junior scientist for the Bettis Atomic Power Lab and left there in 1967 as a senior scientist.

He attended the University of Toledo and received his B.S in Eng. Physics in 1957.  He received his Ph.D from the University of Pittsburgh in 1964.
