Bonnie Jean Griffin

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of employee Bonnie Jean Griffin on May 16.  She was 54.

Bonnie was born in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of Walter Forrest of Falmouth and Jean Webster of Lynn. She was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1978. She was a graduate of Burdett College in Boston and also attended Northeastern University.

Bonnie began her career at WHOI in 2005 as grants administrator II where she continued to hold that position until her passing. She was also a licensed real estate broker, a paralegal, and bartender. She loved education and was always seeking knowledge. She was a cheerleader in high school and loved dancing. She is probably best known for her skills in cleaning and organizing.

Bonnie is the mother of Kelsie Griffin of Teaticket and the late Mark Paul Baribeau. In addition to her parents and her daughter, she leaves her sisters, Annie King of Falmouth; Joanne Mitsiaris and her husband James of Rochester, NH; her brother James King of Florida; her former husband, Mark Griffin of Colorado; a niece, Sarah Wolfe and her husband Keith of Dover, NH; two nephews, Seth Mitsiaris and his wife Krystal of Rochester, NH; and Ishi King and his wife Jessica of Gloucester. She also leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visiting hours are on Friday, May 22, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, Lynn, Mass.  Her funeral will be held on Saturday, May 23, at 11:00 a.m., in the Solimine Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Cremation will be followed by private burial.
