Pearl DeMello

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Pearl DeMello on August 28, in the Royal of Cotuit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mashpee.  She was 82.

Pearl was the daughter of John and Helen (Terzian) Kayajanian.  She was born in Boston.

Pearl was a switchboard operator at WHOI for nearly 10 years.  She retired in 1994.

Pearl was the wife of Lawrence DeMello for 45 years. In addition to her husband, Ms. DeMello leaves her sister, Lucy Kayajanian; her brothers, Harry Kayajanian and John Kayajanian; her stepchildren, Patricia DeMello, Michael DeMello, and his wife, Cynthia DeMello, and Timothy DeMello and his wife, Mary Ellen DeMello; her nieces, Kimberly Santos and Leah Kayajanian; and her nephew, Nishan Kayajanian.

Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, September 2, at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, September 3, at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway, E. Falmouth, Mass.

Burial was private.
