Martha L. McCamis

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has received word of the death
May 18, 2006 of former employee Martha L. McCamis at Eagle Pond Nursing
& Rehabilitation Center in South Dennis, MA. She was 81.

Martha L. Hampe was born February 16, 1925 in Wakefield, MA and
graduated in 1943 from Stoughton High School in Stoughton, MA.  She worked as a clerk-stenographer at Norfolk County Trust
in Stoughton from July 1943 to July 1947, when she married John J.
Queenan, who died in 1961.  She worked
briefly as a typist for Stephen A. Days in Buzzards Bay before joining
the Institution staff in July 1962 as a receptionist-secretary working in Facilities with
Jim Mitchell.  She married Marvin J. McCamis, a former chief engineer and Alvin
pilot, and continued working at WHOI until November 1970.  When
Marvin retired from WHOI in 1977 the couple moved to Port. St. Lucie,
FL.  He passed away in Florida in October 2004.

She is survived by two sons, John M. Queenan of West Yarmouth, MA and
Jay M. Queenan of Falmouth, MA; a daughter, Patricia A. Blackmon of
Pelion, SC: five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
