Southbound Again

April 13, 2013

R/V Knorr passed the Steamship Authority freight vessel Sankaty in Woods Hole Channel on its way to the port of Cape Town, South Africa, in February 2013. Although it was a simple transit (albiet a long one), two researchers from the University of Miami took the opportunity to conduct experiments on board that were designed to better understand the uncertainties in satellite measurements of sea-surface temperature. Knorr is currently on its way back north carrying a science party led by WHOI chemist Liz Kujawinski on a cruise to study the interaction between the biology and chemistry, the land and ocean, and the surface and deep ocean in the western Atlantic.(Photo by Jayne Doucette, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
