On the Rocks

August 15, 2016

Ice floes in Iceland’s Jökulsárlón lagoon come from Breiðamerkurjökull (visible in the background), one of the glaciers draining the third largest ice cap in the world. Iceland was the destination of this year’s Geodynamics Seminar field trip, which focused on ice dynamics. Melting ice on the Iceland and Greenland ice caps are major sources of fresh water into the North Atlantic, which contributes to sea level rise and potentially disrupts global ocean circulation.
