Happy Campers
July 29, 2011During Polar Discovery Expedition 3 in 2007, scientists and students ventured to Antarctica to study the geology and biology of the southern continent. At the start of the expedition, 20 students experienced Happy Camper School, a two-day program taught to anyone who intends to spend even one night away from McMurdo Station. It’s a rite of passage for any Antarctic scientist that includes lessons on how to survive, deal with emergencies, and even remain comfortable in sub-zero, whiteout conditions.(Photo by Chris Linder, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
