Field Gear

November 1, 2017

What do you do when you have to do fieldwork on Halloween? You put your costume on early. Members of WHOI’s Coastal Systems Group did just that yesterday during a trip to Roundhill Salt Marsh in Dartmouth, Mass., where they went to collect sediment cores to look for signs of hurricanes passing through the region over the past 2,000 years. Research assistant Kelly McKeon (left) and MIT-WHOI Joint Program graduate student Katie Castagno work together like peanut butter and jelly to force a coring tube into the marsh. Northeastern University co-op students Charmille Dizon and Bethany Bowen also made the trip as a shark and Rosie the Riveter, respectively.
