A Touch of Ocean Life

A Touch of Ocean Life

January 13, 2015

WHOI post-docs Liz Harvey and Tristan Horner got up close with a giant green anemone (A. xanthogrammica) at the Seattle Aquarium, when they participated in an NSF-sponsored National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation study circle recently. In addition to sharing their scientific expertize, Harvey and Horner are learning effective communication techniques to help interpret and explain climate change for the general public. The Study Circle places a particular emphasis on using empirically tested explanatory metaphors (pdf) to help the public understand unfamiliar concepts, such as the mechanisms behind global climate change.(Photo courtesy of Tristan Horner, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
