A Fluid Problem

A Fluid Problem

July 22, 2012

Every summer since 1959, graduate students interested in physical and mathematical sciences have gathered at WHOI to study geophysical fluid dynamics. This field focuses on the physics and motions of fluids, such as in the ocean or atmosphere on Earth, and on other planets. The program, held at Walsh Cottage in Woods Hole, promotes an exchange of ideas among the many distinct fields that share a common interest in fluid dynamics. Participants, including those shown here in this summer’s program, spend days discussing ideas with senior scientists that ultimately help people forecast the weather, learn about climate, study stars, and conserve the ocean.(Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
