Team Turns Around Internal Wave Resolving Array West of California

As part of the National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP)  Global Internal Wave study (NGIW) https://nopp-giw.ucsd.edu, the Internal Wave Resolving (IWR) Array team https://nopp-giw.ucsd.edu/teams/waterhouse/, funded by the Office of Naval Research, successfully turned around the IWR Array deployed west of California in the SWOT cal/val crossover site.  The data from the central mooring and one of the nine PIESs continue to come back in real time:  https://mooring.ucsd.edu/nopp1/nopp1_02/, building on the data collected for the first 7 months of the deployment: https://mooring.ucsd.edu/nopp1/nopp1_01/ .  Cruise participants on the on the RV Sally Ride SR2405 included engineers, technical staff and scientists from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) and WHOI as well as postdocs from SIO, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of Michigan. The full IWR Array will be recovered in fall 2024. A second array will be deployed in the equatorial Pacific in fall 2024, partnering with the NSF-funded MOTIVE project, and the third array will be deployed off the Aleutian Islands in summer 2025.
