Marine chemist Zhaohui “Aleck” Wang recently tested an instrument he developed in collaboration with WHOI engineers for his research on ocean acidification and the carbon cycle. This all-in-one sensor package simultaneously measures pH and dissolved inorganic carbon, which can paint a complete picture of carbon dioxide cycling in and through a local volume of seawater. Wang designed the instrument to be deployed on a buoy for up to three months at a time and can control the sensor as well as stream data in real-time through Ethernet. He plans to deploy it in 2014 at the Martha’s Vineyard Coastal Observatory.(Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
