First in Flight
April 21, 2014A pair of osprey settle into their new digs at WHOI’s Quissett Campus during the second week of April. A welcome sign of spring to humans who endured the harsh winter, these birds returned to Woods Hole on March 28, 2014. Thanks to the man-made perch and a hi-def camera (installed in 2010 by WHOI and Woods Hole Sea Grant), viewers can watch the ospreys build their nest and tend to their eggs 24 hours a day. If previous years are any indication, the eggs will hatch around Memorial Day and the chicks will fledge by early July. (Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
