The Synergy project at the Museum of Science in Boston until June 2 highlights works of art created by artists paired with ocean scientists. Anastasia Azure collaborated with WHOI oceanographer Larry Pratt, who studies the fluid dynamics and weaved hand-dyed fishing line to create a sculpture on the far wall that represents the patterns Pratt investigates, revealing “the inner life of water’s turbulent motion and swirling beauty.” On the right, Karen Ristuben created a sculpture based on MIT-WHOI graduate student Sophie Chu’s research into ocean acidification. The eggshells, corroded with acidic vinegar, have the same calcium carbonate composition as shells of snails and other marine life. See article and video.
