Postdoctoral Fellow Katy Abbott joins WHOI’s PO Department. Katy earned her PhD in Oceanography through the MIT/WHOI Joint Program. Her research interests include physical-biological interactions, upper-ocean vertical transport and Lagrangian analysis. Katy is working with Amala Mahadevan to develop a new method to estimate vertical transport and tracer fluxes from observations. She also looks at how submesoscale subduction restructures microbial communities and regulates microbial respiration.
Outside of research, Katy enjoys knitting, brewing kombucha, and going on long outdoor adventures
