Margaret Mary Costello
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of retiree Margaret Mary (Diver) Costello at Royal Nursing Center, after a brief illness, on August 29. She was 83.
Margaret was born in Boston on June 14, 1927 to James and Margaret (Phillips) Diver, both immigrants from Donegal, Ireland. She was educated at St. Peter’s School in Dorchester, MA, and St. Patrick’s School in Roxbury, MA, (Class of 1944). From 1944-1965 she worked in the accounting department at First National in Somerville, MA. In 1980, she moved to Falmouth from Boston and worked in the WHOI accounting department full time in 1983 and retired in 1993. From 1993-1995 she returned on a part time basis.
Margaret enjoyed gardening, reading, collecting jewelry, following the Red Sox, and shopping anywhere but especially at T.J. Maxx.
Surviving is her daughter, Margaret F. Costello of East Falmouth; sister, Patricia Hart of Dorchester; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Richard J. Costello and her sister Frances Boles.
Visiting hours will be from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday, August 31, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth, MA 02540. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 1, at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 E. Falmouth Hwy. (Route 28), East Falmouth, MA, followed by burial at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Church at the above address.
