Postdoctoral Investigator Shikhar Rai joins WHOI’s PO Department. Shikhar earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Shikhar’s research interests are geophysical fluid dynamics, air-sea interactions, turbulence, CFD and ocean and atmosphere modeling. Shikhar is working with Hyodae Seo on the Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS) project to understand the physical processes in the Tropical Pacific that influence the weather and climate systems. They use Tropical Atmosphere Ocean (TAO) buoy array data and coupled air, wave, and ocean models. Their study aims to aid the TPOS field campaign in designing and strategically placing new instruments in the Tropical Pacific. In his free time, Shikhar is usually sketching or painting. He also enjoys watching Bollywood movies, Japanese anime and Marvel/DC movies. He also hikes and plays lawn tennis.
