Welcome Postdoctoral Investigator Jacob Steinberg

steinbergjacobJacob Steinberg, Postdoctoral Investigator, joins WHOI’s PO Department.  Jacob earned a PhD in Physical Oceanography from the University of Washington, Seattle.  His research interests are submesoscale/ mesoscale eddy structure, evolution, and decay; geostrophic turbulence; eddy vertical structure; surface projection of interior motions; autonomous platforms (gliders); increasing the accessibility of oceanographic datasets and analysis tools; teaching.  Current Research: Member of the ocean transport and eddy energy climate process team (https://ocean-eddy-cpt.github.io/) working at WHOI with Sylvia Cole. This work seeks to improve eddy momentum and tracer parameterizations across a variety of ocean/climate models. Jacob will be focusing on synthesizing observations collected across a variety of platforms to assess eddy kinetic energy variability as a function of scale and better inform model parameterizations. In his free time, Jacob likes to trail run, play tennis, rock climb, and read.
