Alex Gonzalez is an Assistant Scientist in the Physical Oceanography Department at WHOI. Alex recently joined WHOI from Iowa State University where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in atmospheric dynamics and tropical meteorology as well as an introduction to weather and climate course. Alex received his MS and PhD in Atmospheric Science from Colorado State University.
Alex’s research interests are tropical meteorology, geophysical fluid dynamics and sub-seasonal to seasonal atmospheric and oceanic variability. His current research focuses on three phenomena: the intertropical convergence zone, the Madden-Julian Oscillation and tropical waves.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, cycling, hiking, lifting weights, yoga, cooking (especially pizza and pretzels), playing basketball and playing the guitar.
