A Trip for the Record Books

September 1, 2005

Research Vessel Knorr will pass another milestone in its long career when it reaches one million miles traveled for ocean science this month. The 279-foot ship is working in the Southern Pacific off Chile on climate studies in the Southern Ocean around Antarctica. It is due at Puerto Montt, Chile, October 6. The milestone will occur, with 20 miles to spare, as Knorr transits the Patagonia channels on the way from the last science station to the dock in Puerto Montt. The ship began its current voyage in April 2005 when it departed Woods Hole and is scheduled to return to Woods Hole in July 2006. Click here for the ship’s schedule.
