Q. When are you open?

DunkWorks is open 8am-430pm. Monday - Friday. Users with special safety equipment and equipment training are granted after hours access.The Class 3 equipment is locked and tagged out and can only be utilized when the Coach is present.

Q. Where is DunkWorks Located? 

The Dunkworks Facility is located in the WHOI Smith Building, in the 'Old' Stockroom - 38 Water Street Woods Hole, MA 02543

Q. Who can use DunkWorks?

Any WHOI Employee, student or outside WHOI company can purchase a membership to DunkWorks.

Q. How do I schedule a tour of DunkWorks?

Please contact dunkworks@whoi.edu to schedule a tour.

Q. Do I get access to everything?

Members have access to the DunkWorks space, and all equipment as long as the Coach is present and have completed their safety and the specific equipment training. If Coach is not present, the Class 3 machines are locked out and tagged out.

Q. Do I get to operate the 3D printers?

The Coach is available to orient you to specific machines or techniques after you have completed the safety training and taken an equipment training workshop. Available workshop dates will be advertised on WHOI Headlines.

Q. What if I want to hire someone to make my parts?

Please contact dunkworks@whoi.edu so we can provide you with a quote.

Q. Do I have to pay for materials?

Yes. Each 3D printer has an individual cost associated per machine. You can locate the costs on the DunkWork's Membership page.

Q. Who helps me run the machines?

DunkWorks employs a full-time Coach to benefit the Member.  The Coach is available to quide you through the equipment, keep the machines in good working order, and manage the flow of work throughout the facility.

Q. How do I learn to run the machines?

Members will get access to the DunkWorks space after they have completed the safety training and taken an equipment training workshop. The Coach is available to orient you to specific machines or techniques.
