We are interested in the types of molecules that are transferred among marine microbes in different ocean environments. There are a series of projects available for a Summer Student Fellow in our laboratory, all focused on the intersection of marine chemistry and microbiology. We use advanced mass spectrometry to find and to quantify these molecules in both field and laboratory projects. Summer Student Fellows would learn how to use our techniques and would answer compelling questions about carbon cycling in the oceans. We seek students who have interests in both biology and chemistry and have some training in chemistry and/or math.
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is dedicated to research and education to advance understanding of the ocean and its interaction with the Earth system, and to communicating this understanding for the benefit of society. Learn more »
