For near-shore research COI maintains a small boat fleet which complements R/V Tioga, the Institution's primary coastal research vessel.
The MVCO is a research observatory located at South Beach and in the ocean a mile off the south shore of Martha's Vineyard. It provides real time and archived coastal oceanographic and meteorological data for researchers, students and the general public.
The Coastal Research Laboratory (CRL) provides space and equipment for experimental work and for instrument development, construction, and testing.
COI maintains a "virtual" instrument pool of sampling and measuring instruments that are available for loan within pool membership.
