Woods Hole Public Library

February 26 @ 8:00 am - May 11 @ 5:00 pm

Armchair travelers will have the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica via an illustrated talk with Jennifer Gaines at the library on Monday, May 6, at 3 p.m. Jennifer is a recently retired Woods Hole librarian who helped begin the popular travel talk series at the library many years ago. Now, with her new-found free time, she has been able to do some traveling herself, and the library is delighted that she has agreed to share her experiences. Her recent trip to Costa Rica with Road Scholar took her on two sequential 10-day birding trips, first a northern loop, then a southern loop. Jennifer will share her pictures of many of the special endemic species she encountered, as well as share photos of her experience in this beautiful country. This program will be held in the library’s lower-level meeting room and is free and open to the public. The library will be holding its annual Spring Plant Sale this year on Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The majority of the plants at the sale come from community gardens, meaning shoppers are able to find hardy and healthy additions for their gardens that are proven to flourish in our Cape Cod climate. In order to have all these wonderful plants on hand, however, the library relies on donations from our community. Now is the time to start planning your digging! As gardens wake up and the sun calls gardeners out to the yard, it is a perfect time to look around and determine which overzealous perennials could benefit from dividing. Spending the time to divide vigorous perennials is beneficial to the plants, giving them more room to grow and thrive. By donating extra perennials to the library, gardeners can also benefit their community, allowing the library to likewise grow and thrive! Donations may be brought to the library during the week before the sale. Pots and soil, as well as labels, are available at the library in the courtyard for people to use in potting up their plants. All perennials, shrubs, small trees, house plants, and seedlings, as well as tubers, corms, and bulbs are welcome. For questions, please get in touch with the WHPL Plant Sale Committee by emailing WHPL.plantsale@gmail.com or calling the library at (508) 548-8961.
