WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

April 12, 2021 @ 8:00 am - May 1, 2021 @ 8:00 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 8:00 am, repeating indefinitely

To celebrate all patrons and friends, the library is hosting “Patron Appreciation Days” on Saturdays in April. As a show of thanks and appreciation, the library will offer home-baked goodies during its open hours of 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. A table will be set up in the courtyard just outside the pick-up window, which has been the interface point between the library and its borrowers for the last year, and cookies, baked and packaged by Board members, will be offered to all. The “Patron Appreciation” tradition began in 2018 as an indoor event in February, but of necessity has been reconfigured. As an independent library whose operating budget is largely funded by donations, the Woods Hole Public Library is well aware of the value of members and patrons, so appreciates its people all year; but “Patron Appreciation Days” give the staff and board a special opportunity to demonstrate that sentiment. May Day flower bouquets will be offered as a fundraiser by the library on Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the library courtyard. Buyers, following COVID-19 precautions, will be invited to assemble their own bouquets from an array of flowers and greens and to bundle their bouquets in “posy pockets” crafted from a variety of colorful fabrics and adornments by library staff and volunteers. These bouquets will make a wonderful spring surprise left outside a neighbor’s door or a welcome sign of spring at your own home. Posy Pockets are $30 and can be purchased in advance by going to the library’s website www.woodsholepubliclibrary.org. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the library’s typical ongoing book sale in the lower level meeting room continues to be closed to the public. However, in an effort to provide the community with great used books (and to clear a little more space on the storage shelves!), the librarians and trustees and Book Sale Committee have organized a new way to “shop” the Used Book Shop. It is called “Bundles of Books” and will require lots more participation from the library’s volunteers, who are eager for this new enterprise to begin. The process starts online, specifically on the library’s website www.woodsholepubliclibrary.org clicking on the “Used Book Shop” link. Their people will find a request form which goes into great detail as to what sort of books they are looking for. They just choose the type of book they would like, submit the form, and wait patiently while the newly formed cadre of volunteers fulfills the order. Then the shopper will receive a notice by either email or telephone that their bag of between 5-10 books awaits their pick-up at the library for the set price of $ 10. This type of shopping may not be for everyone. It will require a certain daring and willingness to take a chance and enjoy the surprise. But the risk factor is minimal, and the possibility of a bargain is tangible, so the library hopes many people will try this out.
