WOODS HOLE FILM FESTIVAL (WHFF)

February 23, 2022 @ 8:00 am - March 6, 2022 @ 5:00 pm

The WHFF is pleased to present a very special workshop for people interested in learning how to write a comedy sketch for a short film or television. Veteran comedy writer Steve Young helms the five-part virtual workshop, “From Funny Idea to Funny Script,” on March 2, 5, 6. ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM: Do you have great ideas for a funny sketch, short film, or video? Just need a nudge and some encouragement to get the comedy out of your head and onto the page (and then maybe onto the screen)? This WHFF writing workshop led by veteran comedy writer Steve Young (Letterman, The Simpsons) will get you writing and help you make your comedy dreams a reality! Participants will learn comedy principles from Steve, view examples and discuss how they work, and present their own pitches for short comedy projects they want to write. In a supportive environment, Steve and the group will offer critiques and suggestions, helping everyone on the path to a funny script for potential inclusion in a writing submission, submitting to contests, or even producing independently. Conducted via Zoom, the workshop will take place over five sessions. In addition to the Zoom sessions, participants will work independently on their own comedy scripts as well as read their fellow writers’ work and prepare comments. Cost is $150, $100 (members). Limited to 14 participants, no prior experience required. Register via www.woodsholefilmfestival.org. For more information email info@woodsholefilmfestival.org or call (508) 495-3456. The festival is supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Woods Hole Foundation, the Falmouth Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and the Cape Cod 5 Charitable Foundation Trust. The WHFF Writers Workshop is part of the WHFFF’s year-round independent film program. The Woods Hole Film Festival is pleased to continue the WHFF Virtual 2022 season series with the narrative feature film STORM BOY by Shawn Seet (Thursday, March 3 through Sunday, March 6, 2022). The WHFF virtual screening series will run through May 2022 and will present independent films and special live events hosted on its online streaming platform every month. Additional virtual and live screening events will be added as well. Screening events are hosted online for a four-day viewing period and may include a live Q&A or discussion with filmmakers scheduled virtually during the viewing period. The selections include films from the Woods Hole Film Festival, as well as independent films curated specifically for the series. The series is part of the Woods Hole Film Festival’s commitment to offering year-round independent film programming to supplement the annual summer Festival. The film will be available to watch between Thursday, March 3 at 8 am and Sunday, March 6 at midnight. Once you start playing the film you will have 48 hours to finish watching, or until midnight on Sunday, March 6, whichever comes first. Tickets are $14 per person, $20 per household ($12/17 respectively for WHFF members) and are on sale in advance at www.woodsholefilmfestival.org.
