Book Event: Lethal Tides: Mary Sears and The Marine Scientists Who Helped to Win World War II

November 9, 2022 @ 2:00 pm

FREE

The WHOI Women’s Committee presents author Dr. Catherine Musemeche who will present her new book Lethal Tides: Mary Sears and The Marine Scientists Who Helped to Win World War II on November 9 in WHOI’s Redfield Auditorium, 45 Water St., Woods Hole. There will be a discussion and Q&A at 2 p.m. followed by refreshments & book signing at 3 p.m.

When Mary Sears entered marine science, women were few in number, but she wasn’t deterred. During WWII she got her chance to excel as a naval oceanographer and performed at a level very few could imagine for a woman of her time. She helped change the course of the war. Mary Sears represents the generations of women who came before us in science and paved the path we walk now.

This event is FREE and open to the public. The MBLWHOI Library will have Mary Sears materials from the archives on view.
