WOODS HOLE PUBLIC LIBRARY (WHPL)
July 1 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The library will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, July 8, at 7:30 p.m. A brief business meeting with reports by President of the Board Vicky Cullen, Treasurer Robert Goldsborough, and Director Kellie Porter will be followed by a presentation of photographs and reminiscences by Ann Little Newbury. The Library’s Summer Reading Program theme this year is “Woods Hole Reflections”, and to tie into that theme, Ann will share her own Woods Hole reflections, having grown up in the village first as a summer visitor and now as a year-round resident and Assistant Librarian at the library. The public is invited to attend the meeting and the talk, which will be held in the Library’s lower level large meeting room at 581 Woods Hole Road. This July, the library invites the community to explore creativity and connection through a free series of hands-on drawing workshops led by California-based artist and designer David Browne. Held on Wednesday afternoons—July 9, and 16 at 3 p.m.—each workshop will center around a unique artistic prompt, including life drawing, self-portraits, and visual responses to music. All skill levels are welcome, and materials will be provided. David Browne brings more than 15 years of experience across art, design, and creative collaboration, with a portfolio that spans comics, branding, fabrication, and editorial art direction. His dynamic teaching style and interdisciplinary background make these workshops an exciting opportunity for artists and community members of all ages. The workshops are part of the library’s Woods Hole Reflections Summer Reading Program, a season-long celebration of storytelling, learning, and local history. Inspired by the 1983 publication Woods Hole Reflections from the Woods Hole Museum, this year’s theme encourages readers to document their own reflections in a custom journal—through lists, sketches, or stories. Workshop participants and readers alike will receive exclusive weekly stickers illustrated by Browne himself. The Summer Reading Program kicks off July 1 and runs through the end of August. Join us in honoring the stories that connect us to our village—and in creating new ones.
